Peer support doesn’t just work one way… Even if you’re in a mentoring role, simply talking to someone else who is struggling with the same issue can support you as well. It’s not just an act of charity. In a lot of cases, the volunteer is helped as much as the patient.

Volunteering with Mind in Enfield

Volunteering with us at Mind in Enfield can make an invaluable contribution and help people with mental health difficulties to turn their lives around. Our clients rely on our volunteers for someone that they can talk to and confide in and often feel that volunteers are a source of inspiration as they encourage them to think more positively about their lives and what they can do to improve themselves and their personal situations. Being a volunteer can also be a rewarding experience as through their services they can see the transformation in people’s lives and increase their understanding and knowledge about mental health difficulties.

Most of our volunteering is required for the social support service where we need volunteers for different roles such as supporting clients in the drop-in with activities, courses, community trips. Volunteers for this service do not need any special skills, just patience and a basic knowledge of mental health issues. Lived or other experience of mental health would be an advantage.

We also have volunteering roles within admin, finance, fund raising, reception and assisting in our wellbeing café.  We also have volunteers in our counselling service and advice team who are skilled in particular training.

We also provide Volunteers with relevant training and reimburse any travel expenses to and from Mind in Enfield.

The commitment we expect from you as a volunteer is:

  • A minimum of 6 months committed service.
  • To attend any training required for the role
  • A valid DBS certificate (paid for by Mind in Enfield)
